Human skeletal remains were found on Zemel Road near the Charlotte County Land Fill on January 6, 2002. The remains had been determined to have been there for approximately 6 to 10 weeks, but it has been investigated as a homicide. The identity of the victim had been unknown until July of 2024, when DNA found on the victim's watch (which was left with the body) confirmed him to be Alejandro Narciso Lago (10/31/57) from Miami Dade County.
Detectives are still seeking information that would help identify his killer(s) as well as why Lago was in Charlotte County.
